Festive inspiration

Infuse your home with festive magic this holiday season, with handcrafted touches inspired by Danish traditions.

Make your own Julehjerte

These delicately woven hearts are a timeless Danish tradition that fill spaces with warmth and charm.

What you’ll need:

  • Two pieces of coloured paper

  • Scissors

  • Ruler

  • Pencil

  • Wine or water glass

Step 1: Choose two pieces of paper in different colours and fold each one in half.

Step 2: Using a glass as a guide, trace two circles near the fold to form the top of the hearts. Then, draw two straight lines from the sides of the circles down to the fold to create an arch shape for each heart.

Step 3: Cut out your hearts along the lines.

Step 4: On the folded side of each heart, measure and mark it into three equal parts. Draw two straight lines from those points about two-thirds of the way up. Cut along these lines to create three strips.

Step 5: Unfold the hearts and refold them with the pencil marks inside. Now, weave one heart through the other, strip by strip, to create a sturdy basket that can hold small items like sweets and treats.

How to make a traditional wreath

Set the perfect festive atmosphere with elements of nature.

What you’ll need:

  • Vine wreath base

  • Chicken wire or floral wire

  • Wire cutting scissors

  • Ribbon

  • Dried flowers

  • Fresh foliage

Step 1: Start with your vine wreath base, and wrap chicken wire around it to create a sturdy frame for holding greenery in place.

Step 2: Layer in your decorations by tucking fresh foliage into the chicken wire, making sure to cover the entire base evenly. Then, add dried flowers, berries or even ornaments for texture and colour.

Step 3: Size it up by choosing dramatic details that overflow from the wreath, or if you’re short on space, keep it compact and focus on intricate details.

Step 4: Finish with a spritz of your favourite scent for a festive touch.

Create a floating flower cloud

Impress your guests with a spectacular suspended centrepiece.

What you’ll need:

  • Wire hoop or frame

  • Chicken wire or floral wire

  • Wire cutting scissors

  • Dried flowers

  • Fresh foliage

Step 1: To shape your cloud, start by attaching chicken wire to a hoop or frame, bending it into your desired cloud-like shape. Step 2: Begin building volume with fresh or dried greenery. Weave the stems through the chicken wire, allowing the foliage to spill over and around the frame to mimic the softness and natural flow of a cloud. Step 3: A variety of flowers in different sizes and textures will give your arrangement depth. Place larger blooms in clusters and weave smaller ones in between for a balanced, organic look. Let a few pieces hang lower to enhance the floating illusion. Step 4: Personalise your flower cloud with unique accents like feathers, trailing vines or seasonal touches. For a more immersive experience, consider adding a light mist of essential oils or scented sprigs. Step 5: To float your flower cloud, secure it in place using transparent fishing line or thin wire, making sure it’s well-balanced before hanging. Position it in an open space to create a weightless focal point that seems to hover in mid-air.
