BIG
BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group is a Copenhagen, New York, London, Barcelona, Shenzhen and Los Angeles-based group of architects, designers, urbanists, landscape professionals, interior and product designers, researchers, and inventors. Founded by Bjarke Ingels in 2005, the studio is currently involved in projects throughout Europe, the Americas, Asia and the Middle East.
Incorporating analysis of contemporary life
BIG believes that by hitting the fertile overlap of the pragmatic and the utopian, architects can find the freedom to change the surface of our planet, to better fit contemporary life forms. Jakob Lange joined BIG in 2003 and was named Partner in 2009. Lange has been instrumental in many of BIG’s most high-profile buildings and technology projects, such as Copenhill, an innovative waste-to-energy plant in Copenhagen that doubles as a ski slope, and The Mountain, an architectural alchemy of housing and parking in Copenhagen.
As BIG says:
“It is very attractive as a designer not only to design great objects, but also design objects or pieces of furniture that reach everybody.“
